Indoors Outdoors

July 16th, 2015

If you’ve ever lazed away lunch time on a beautiful Mediterranean terrace, you’ll know just how seductive the concept of the ‘outdoor kitchen’ can be. Spaces where the indoors seems to morph effortlessly into the outdoors are very special. However, no matter how enthusiastic we might be, there’s always the great British weather to contend with - which is why kitchens and dining areas designed within orangeries, garden rooms and conservatories have never been more popular.

Here are some of our recent favourites.

(Above left) This gorgeous kitchen throws itself open to garden living by featuring bi-fold doors and shallow steps.  Kate Shreffler, Customer Relations Manager at Bryan Turner Kitchen Furniture explains, “In good weather, the indoor and outdoor spaces become one.  The colour of the kitchen cabinetry pops against the grey of the terrace.  Meanwhile, further light from a spacious roof light floods the kitchen island area.”

(Centre) This is a beautiful example of a classic kitchen-into-conservatory design, where the conservatory has been put to the best possible use as a spacious, light-filled dining area.  A high pitched roof and French doors at one end of the conservatory ensures the space feels airy and open.  Bryan Turner, Founder and Managing Director says, “The close proximity of the kitchen’s larder cupboard and its built-in ovens ensure that convenience – being able to transfer food quickly and easily to the dining area and garden beyond – is prioritised, whilst the flow of the kitchen remains uncompromised.”

(Above right) This kitchen is a great example of how it’s possible to create a seamless indoor-to-outdoor space without the addition of a conservatory or similar structure.  In fine weather, the double height, bi-fold doors allow one complete side of this kitchen to be open.  Designer Jonathan Turner says, “This was a stunning, contemporary extension built onto the rear of a period house – and the bi-fold doors, coupled with the double height of the glass – are extraordinarily transformational.”
